The new Aspire One D150 offers a elegant and stylish design along with enough power to satisfy for your daily as-well-as mobile computing needs.  And with the 6 hours-plus battery life and extremely affordable price ($350-$400 for 6-cell battery), it is a great bang for a buck. We recommend it.

  • Cheap for what you get
  • Looks nice
  • Brushed metallic palm rest
  • Zippy performance
  • eRecovery software is handy
  • Full sized shift key and dedicated page-up/down buttons

  • Better bundled case (compared to older Aspire One)

Cons:

  • Keyboard could have been bigger.

ASUS EEE 1002HA review

Folks at gadgetmix.com have done a massive review of the EEE 1002HA. Here is what they have to say,

The EEE 1002HA is a great machine which takes the all the positives of the EEE S101 and EEE 1000H. The ASUS took the challenge to produce a regular HDD-based EEE with the slim looks of S101. Are we happy with the final outcome? Yes! The 1002HA is great in performance and brings seriously professional looks. On the battery life front, it may not break and records, but with careful usage, you should easily get 3.5 hours+ of battery life.

Pros:

  • Shares the same sexy looks of the EEE S101
  • HDD is way roomy as compared to small SSD of S101
  • RAM and HDD easily upgradable
  • Feels expensive
  • Smaller than the 1000H
  • Zippy performance with the XP
  • 10GB EEE storage

Cons:

  • Battery life is not great
  • No extended battery options
  • Small right shift key

New Lenovo S10 Instant-On netbook

Lenovo’s IdeaPad S10 netbook – an affordable secondary PC for the home or for the first-time PC user – is ideal for connecting to the Internet, messaging with friends, completing homework or even making Skype calls. Lenovo is updating the popular IdeaPad S10 netbook with new multimedia and networking tools for social networking enthusiasts ranging from newbie’s to the most social of socialites.

While many early adopters are familiar with the world of social networking, some mainstream consumers are only taking the first steps. Through a new Lenovo tool called LenovoSocial, that comes preloaded on the netbook, users can easily connect to a resource portal that will help them navigate the vast options for participating in social networking.

Other new features on the IdeaPad S10 netbook include Lenovo Quick Start. With this functionality, users will have the ability to access a number of frequently used applications including a web browser, music player, photo viewer, instant messaging tools and Skype. New to the netbook is Lenovo’s VeriFace™ facial recognition technology, a convenient tool for easy log-in. Similar to the IdeaPad Y Series laptops, the netbook features multi-touch functionality on the trackpad and Lenovo’s OneKey™ Rescue System.

The new IdeaPad S10 netbook’s 10.2-inch LED backlight display, 0.9 inch thick frame and 2.4 pound weight make it an ideal companion to tote in a backpack or shoulder bag. Color choices include black, white, red, blue, or pink.

Google Android on a netbook is running fine!

Google android is running all fine thanks to the geeks at venturebeats. They have been able to get the graphics and the Wireless running on the big ASUS EEE 1000H netbook.

They are also pretty optimistic about such industry:

Imagine the billion dollar market at stake here if Google can make good on this vision. Netbooks are basically small-scale PCs. For Silicon Valley myriad of software companies, it means a well-backed, open operating system that is open and ripe for exploitation for building upon. Now think of Chrome, Google’s web browser, and the richness it allows developers to build into the browser’s relationship with the desktop — all of this could usher in a new wave of more sophisticated web applications, cheaper and more dynamic to use. Ramifications abound: What does it mean for the stock price of Microsoft? Microsoft currently owns the vast majority of the desktop operating system market share? In recent weeks, Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer repeatedly dismissed Android as competition to Windows Mobile.”

HP to include 3G Option to the Mini 1000

It is the era of netbooks right now. Everybody wants to have a computer that is portable and can be carry anywhere, which is now possible with your netbook. Being able to connect online with wireless or 3G is a must-have featuer. Unfortunately many netbooks do not come with the 3G option. So,  that’s means that by current standards, your netbook is not complete.

I know all netbooks are not coming up with this option, but some netbooks are being released with the 3G option. The HP Mini 1000 with 3G will cost you $199 more over the current price tag of the netbook, which is $399.

Samsung NC10 reviewed

Sammynetbook.com has published a review of the newly released SAMSUNG NC10. Here is the summary of his review:

  • Connectivity is fantastic operating at full wireless speeds
  • Camera is good quality
  • Good weight,
  • Powerful yet cool and quiet
  • The LEDs look cool, and that’s what really counts ;)
  • Keyboard is great, there are a couple of keys that feel out of place but you’ll get used to it quick enough
  • Scrolling up and down isnt ideal with the trackpad, get learning all the keyboard shortcuts! Or plug in a mouse!
  • Boots relatively quick

In general I find the Samsung NC10 very snappy and responsive, strangely even more so than my Quad Core desktop machine when it comes to light tasks. For general browsing I do recommend installing Chrome and ditching IE. Chrome proves to be much quicker in every respect, from simply loading up standard pages and as expected in online applications too.

It takes 27 seconds to boot to the windows front user selection screen and from there another 30 seconds to get Chrome started. I’ll be interested to see how that changes as I begin to load more software onto the machine. But for now I’m impressed by that start up time, it’s quicker than my desktop!

The Samsung NC10 to date has handled everything that I’ve thrown at it with very reasonable performance. I am fast getting the impression that this little netbook will be able to run everything that I need on the move and do it a solid fashion. However I am only part way through installing applications at this stage and there is plenty more to load on and only time will tell if my initial comments hold out! And all this without performing a 2gb NC10 Ram upgrade yet!
