Asus 1015PEM Review

The 1015PEM is the first Asus netbook that features the new Atom N550 processor. Asus 1015PEM is based on the Seashell design and it is sharply tapered in the back so that its battery sits flush at the base. It makes it look attractive than the other 10.1-inch netbooks around. The Asus 1015PEM chassis, lid and palm rest are matte which do a great job in preventing smudges.

Its 10.1-inch glossy screen is a stable of cheap netbooks and is fine for browsing the web and other basic productivity chores. We really wish it had a higher-resolution display like some of the other 10.1-inch Asus netbooks (that have 1366×768 pixel displays).

Keyboard on the Asus 1015PEM measures 92 percent of full size, but is no way as good as the Toshiba NB520 (same configuration as 1015PEM) or Toshiba NB550D. Touchpad is pretty big, almost notebook-sized and its mouse buttons are more resistant than the Toshiba Netbooks. It has 3 USB ports, Ethernet, multi card reader and ships with 250GB hard disk drive (5400RPM) and a gig of RAM. There is no HDMI port, but does feature a VGA port to output the display.

The Asus 1015PEM scored a decent 42 score in the sysMark 2007. For the record, Samsung N210 scored 38. Battery life was nice too – it managed to get 6 hours 30 minutes of runtime with typical usage involving web browsing which is pretty good.

Bottom Line: The performance improvements are not jaw-dropping but the surfing experience seemed better.
