Atom D2550

In the Q3 2011, Intel launched a couple of new processors, namely Atom D2500 and D2700. Both of these two processors are meant to be used in desktops and nettops. In Q1 2012, Intel will be adding one more model to its Atom desktop lineup – Atom D2550.

This new processor is based on Cedar trail infrastructure; features 1MB L2 cache and runs at 1.86GHz clock speed, just like Atom D2500. Like D2700, it supports hyper threading technology. Asus is now offering EB1030 nettop with the Atom D2550 processor.

TDP is 10 watts, same as other two CPUs. All Cedar trail are manufactured using 32nm process and use same controller logic used by Intel Pinetrail processor, its predecessor. Keep in mind that Intel still allows these so-called desktop / nettop processors in netbooks. So, we might see netbook vendors selling D2500 or D2700 powered netbooks.

Toshiba has already announced its cedar trail netbook, Toshiba MB 505 that is powered by Atom N2600 CPU. Samsung will also be upgrading its NC110 with N2600 CPU. The Atom N2600 and N2800 will be made available to the manufactures later this year (2011).
