Lenovo X130e vs X120e

Lenovo Thinkpad X130e is an amazing notebook recommended for those who want to enjoy powerful computing in a netbook-like form factor. Same can be said about its predecessor X120e that sported more or less similar chassis. Let us take a quick look at the difference between the two.

Lenovo X130e vs X120e review

*) Processor: The Lenovo X120e is powered by AMD E350 APU (accelerated processing unit) that is an extremely capable processor. This CPU comes with an integrated ATi Radeon HD 6310 GPU. On the other hand, the Thinkpad X130e features AMD E450 APU that has ATi Radeon HD 6320 GPU. Both processors are dual core, but the E450 does outperform E350 in raw power, thanks to the presence of turbo core.

*) Chassis: While both Lenovo X130e and X120e are 11.6 inch Thinkpad notebooks, both use different chassis. The X120e sports the traditional Thinkpad look with its sharper edges and on the other hand, the X130e looks like a miniature version of 14 inch Edge notebooks like E320. Interestingly, the X130e uses same chassis as the one that is being used by X121e. Find out more pictures of it in the Lenovo x121e review that we did few months back.

*) Weight, Battery – The X120e is lighter than X130e (1.5kg vs 1.7kg). This is chiefly due to fact that the battery in X120e is smaller (57Wh) than the X130e (62.4Wh). However, we think that it is worth carrying the slightly heavier X130e as we were able to get 7 hours of runtime with the X130e when we browsed the web over Wi-Fi. X120, on the other side, was able to give us ‘just’ 5.5 hours.

Build quality of both the sub notebooks is excellent. Both are made from polycarbonate and ABS. This may make them look a bit boring, but it also keeps them from being scratched and away from fingerprints.

PS: X121e is quite similar to the X120e in terms of performance since both feature AMD E350 processor.

Alternatives to the X130e include the HP DM1 and MSI U270 notebooks both of which come with AMD E450 processors. Keep one thing in mind though – none come close to the Thinkpad in terms of build quality.
