Samsung NC210 Review
Samsung NC210 is one of the best netbooks out there equipped with the dual core Atom N550 processor.
Display, Built
Build quality of Samsung netbooks has always been great and the NC210 is no exception. If you have used any of the NC-series Samsung netbooks, you are likely to see no visible difference. Just like the NC210, it also has a shark design which makes it look different from the rest of the herd. Samsung NC210 has a 1024 x 600 pixel 10.1-inch display with 300nits brightness. In simple words, it works great both indoors and outdoors. Coming to the ports, it has VGA output, 3x USB 2.0 ports, including one that can sleep-and-charge USB devices) and multi card reader.
Keyboard, TouchPad
The keyboard is comfortable and is stretched to the maximum width. While you can easily type on the keyboard with your typical typing speeds, it will take sometime to get used to the soft feedback. All the keys are of fairly big size except for the small arrow keys.
Touchpad has a matte surface which means less grease and residue was left behind after some hours of usage. It also accepts multi touch gestures. Both zoom and scrolling gestures worked like a charm.
Performance
The Samsung NC210 comes equipped with a power frugal dual core Atom N550 processor that runs at 1.5GHz clock speed. The CPU is accompanied by the standard Intel GMA 3150 graphics that do the job handling Internet video like a charm. In real world tests, the Atom N550 feels much faster than the Atom N450 / N455 in terms of multitasking and apps that use the multi-threaded architecture. Here are the WEI (windows experience index):
- Processor: 3.1
- Memory: 4.5
- Graphics: 3
- Gaming Graphics: 3
- Hard Disk: 5.6
The Samsung NC210 netbook scored a healthy 510 points in the Cinebench test which is a bit higher than the single core netbooks we have tested so far. This is again due to the dual core architecture being used in the processor.
Battery Life
Samsung bundles a 6-cell battery with the netbook which delivered a mind-boggling 10.5 hours of runtime on a single charge. This is again much more than the netbooks we have tested so far. Keep in mind that those tests were done without any wireless radios on and thus such results were expected. So in web surfing test, we managed to get around 6 hours which is still good enough for a mobile warrior.
Pros:
- Attractive design
- Good build quality
- Decent performance
- Unreal battery runtimes
- Comfortable touchpad
- Value for money
Cons:
- Keys have soft feedback
- No HDMI port
