eMachines 644
If you thought that AMD Ontario platform was only for netbooks, then you were wrong. Unlike Intel, which does not allow Atom processors to be used in computers with more than 12-inches, AMD has not put any restrictions on where a notebook vendor can use the AMD C-50 processor (check out AMD C30 benchmark) and where it cannot. eMachines has rolled 644 notebook in market which sports a 15.6-inch display.

This eMachines notebook comes with the aforementioned AMD C-50 processor, 2GB RAM, 500GB hard disk and runs Windows 7 Home Premium as its OS. Oh, and it costs less than some of the netbooks around – ~400 Euros!

If you want a free tool, download Ubuntu Linux. The inlstal CD has a utility that will let you shrink down your existing XP partition and free up space for a new inlstalation of Ubuntu. Run the utility, shrink the partition, then quit without inlstaling Ubuntu. (unless you’re doing this so you can inlstal Linux, that is)
