Linux distributions like Ubuntu and Linux Mint have gained a lot of popularity lately. Last night, I installed Linux Mint on my notebook and loved it. In fact, I am now thinking of removing Windows operating system as I have found it to be so reliable. However, one thing has been bugging me a lot – the inability to use Windows key to open the Ubuntu menu which has made many people wondered why it does not work out of the box.

Here are the instructions on how to fix it:

Press alt key and F2 together. A run box will open.

Type in gconf-editor and press enter.

Go to apps >> metacity >> global_keybindings

Click on panel_main_menu and change its value to Super_L. Click ok.
